Almascan Alloys by SMW – Properties Obtained After WAAM Process

The mechanical properties obtained are shown in the Tables below.

  • Impact toughness for all the alloys within the Almascan system is at least 200% higher than for Al alloys of other systems.
  • The strength at the weld seams is 90% – 95% of that of the base metal.
  • The welding speed has no noticeable effect on the mechanical/strength properties of joints.
  • A completely recrystallized structure is formed, consisting of equiaxed grains in average size of 1.2 nm. The density of dislocations is practically the same as with base metal ~ 4·1013 m–2 . The volume of Al3 (Sc, Zr) particles remains, equally coherent, while increasing in size to 15 nm each.

Almascan powder

The parts do not require solution treatment followed by quenching. Higher properties are achieved after conventional annealing.
